Rafael Dariolli, Ph.D

Rafael is co-Founder and Head of Cardiac modeling at Bonds Biosystems.

Rafael completed his bachelor’s degree in biology at the State of Sao Paulo University in 2008 (Sao Paulo, Brazil), followed by M.Sc. (2011) and Ph.D. (2015) training in medical sciences with an emphasis in cellular and molecular biology and cardiovascular physiology at the University of Sao Paulo Medicine School (Sao Paulo, Brazil). From 2015 to 2016, Rafael was a Fellow Researcher at the Heart Institute of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and from 2016 to 2022 at the  Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY (Pharmacology Department and the Cardiovascular Research Institute).

Earlier in his career, Rafael studied cellular and molecular mechanisms of cachexia in a rat model of heart failure. During his Master’s and Ph.D. training, Rafael developed stem-cell-based regenerative therapies to treat myocardial infarction, established several innovative small and large animal models of ischemic diseases, and developed animal and cellular models using DNA endonucleases manipulation (e.g., plasmid and virus vectors, CRISPRs). Later, as a postdoctoral fellow, Rafael developed and improved protocols for generating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their differentiation into cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, epithelial cells, and neurons.
